Grease (1978)

"Grease" was released in 1978. A hugely successful film, rightly scratched by critics, but which finds its audience through heart and hearing.

The success is global. It is even Travolta madness. The actor becomes a golden guarantee for the producers. The music is on every radio station, the fashions of Travolta's pink socks and Olivia Newton-John's tight corsair pants are copied. We hum the songs, we sketch the dance steps of the film.

This musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey played on Broadway in 1972 finds its echo on the big screen. $ 160 million in revenue in the United States, over $ 400 million worldwide is more than "Saturday Night Fever".

At Rydell High, in 1958, it was the start of the school year. Danny Zuko and Sandy Olson have been messing about all summer, and find themselves helpless when it comes time to say goodbye. Sandy has to go back to Australia. Coincidences, she does not leave any more and finds herself, without knowing it, in the same school as Danny.

He is the leader of the T-Birds, a clan halfway between the black jackets of the sixties and the punks of the seventies. She is blonde, beautiful, pure, kind, and is accepted and enlisted in the Pink Ladies, female counterpart to the boy group. The Pink Ladies are led by Betty Rizzo who is secretly in love with Danny.

Finding each other, the two lovers do not know how to express their feelings. Danny Zuko is a college student who hides his heart under his black leather jacket. This rocker is a romantic. In front of his friends, he plays macho risking losing the girl of his dreams.

But he has other things to think about:

the rivalry between the T-Birds and the Scorpion gang. It will all end with a car race. Danny and Sandy will then be able to love each other in complete freedom.
